Our method

At Heirloom, candidates spend more time in conversation with us than with any other agency in their careers. Where many firms rely on brief intake calls and résumé review, we engage in a series of focused, intentional conversations designed to understand the person behind the experience.

Through story, reflection, and carefully framed questions, we come to understand a candidate’s values, boundaries, and professional style. We listen for how they speak about past households, the work itself, and the people they’ve supported. Over time, patterns emerge—not just of competence, but of temperament, judgment, and care.

This process is demanding. Candidates often find it rigorous, and at times challenging. But they also consistently describe it as deeply affirming—because they feel seen, understood, and placed with intention. The result is not simply a qualified candidate, but one aligned in a way that cannot be captured on paper.

Our promise

A successful placement requires more than matching skills to needs. We look closely at the personalities, rhythms, and histories of both the household and the professional to assess the likelihood of a relationship that will truly endure.

Some households are naturally flexible and thrive with a wide range of personalities. Others require a more precise alignment to function well over time. We are attentive to these differences and honest about them, even when that honesty slows the process.

We will not move forward with a placement unless we believe it can work well for both parties. Experience has taught us that if a role is not sustainable for one, it will ultimately not be sustainable for the other. By prioritizing fit, we create placements that settle quickly, strengthen over time, and last.
